Know Your Rights To Protest! 3/16/04
As you know, March 20th will mark the first anniversary of the U.S. invasion of
Iraq. On this occasion, more than 100,000 people are expected to gather in NYC
to participate in a global day of action against the occupation of Iraq,
Palestine, and beyond…against the government’s oppressive attacks on our civil
rights and civil liberties at home…and to demand money for jobs, education and
healthcare, not for war!
NAAP-NY has endorsed this initiative locally and all NAAP chapters have endorsed
the rally nationally. Many of you, however, have expressed some reservations
about protesting because you just don't know what your rights are. And in
response to your concerns, NAAP-NY has invited two distinguished attorneys
Claudia Slovinsky, Esq. and Bruce K. Bentley, Esq. of the National Lawyers Guild
to address these concerns and answer any questions you may have (see more info
below).
So, please join us for this small intimate event as we prepare to raise our
voices for our brothers and sisters who cannot!

The National Lawyers Guild is an association dedicated to the need for basic
change in the structure of our political and economic system. NLG seeks to unite
the lawyers, law students, legal workers and jailhouse lawyers of America in an
organization that shall function as an effective political and social force in
the service of the people, to the end that human rights shall be regarded as
more sacred than property interests. Their aim is to bring together all those
who recognize the importance of safeguarding and extending the rights of
workers, women, farmers and minority groups, upon whom the welfare of the entire
nation depends; who seek actively to eliminate racism; who work to maintain and
protect our civil rights and liberties in the face of persistent attacks upon
them; and who look upon the law as an instrument for the protection of the
people, rather than for their repression. For more info please visit www.NLG.com
