The Network of Arab-American Professionals (NAAP) is proud to announce that its Second Annual National Conference will take place on September 24-26, 2004 in Boston, MA. Arab-Americans from across the country will gather to discuss pressing issues affecting our communities in the U.S and abroad, as well as to network on both a professional and social level. The conference will feature career panels in various fields and industries, civic workshops focusing on the electoral process and the upcoming elections, and foreign policy discussions on current political issues in the Arab World. Sounds pretty awesome, huh? We think so. But just in case you're not totally convinced...we've come up with the TOP 7 REASONS why you should join us in Boston in September:
(7) HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER CONFERENCES THAT DEAL WITH THE
SAME UNRESOLVED ISSUES IN OUR COMMUNITY?
We have heard your feedback loud and clear. You don't want to sit through panels and leave without learning something new and actionable. Each panel is designed to directly and creatively address the professional and civic empowerment needs of the Arab-American community. While we may not be able to solve all the problems of the Middle East in one weekend, we guarantee that you will leave each panel with a better understanding of what you can do to affect change.
(6) I'VE HEARD THE STORIES. IS THIS JUST GOING TO BE ANOTHER "MEAT MARKET"?
While there will be opportunities for social interaction and professional
networking, the purpose of this conference is primarily suited to help you
to Empower our Community by focusing on professional development, civic
education, and political awareness. We will have guards on watch to make
sure this purpose is implemented :P
(5) I'M NOT A RED SOX FAN. IS THERE ACTUALLY ANYTHING FUN TO DO IN BOSTON?
Are you kidding? We've spent months planning an all-around fun weekend for you! Aside from all the motivational speakers you will be hearing from... On Friday evening, you will be joining MTV's Rock the Vote for music and giveaways, followed by a kick off party at a hip lounge. On Saturday, there will be a pre-gala mixer and the opportunity to shop from Arab vendors. At the Saturday night banquet, there will be a great cultural show, dancing all night, and more! Finally on Sunday, you will be attending a special awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of our very own members and community leaders.
(4) I SPENT ALL MY MONEY AT GREAT ADVENTURE. HOW MUCH IS THIS TRIP GOING TO COST ME?
The Chinatown Bus costs a mere $20 roundtrip to get to Boston and back. If you register for the conference before September 1st, you will save $50 on the registration fee! Finally, we have secured a special conference discount rate (over 30% off) for you at the beautiful Hyatt Harborside Hotel, which will be even cheaper if you share your room with friends. We have also included a special registration rate for students.
(3) WHAT IF NONE OF MY FRIENDS CAN MAKE IT? I DON'T WANT TO GO ALONE!
No worries! We are organizing a NAAP-NY bus (roundtrip) so that those that
aren't car pooling can all can go together. Once you arrive at the
conference, there will be ample opportunities for you to connect with
others, make new friends, and probably run into some old ones!
(2) I HAVE A JOB YOU KNOW, HOW WILL I FIND TIME TO TRAVEL?
We know you're busy, and assure you that Boston is only about a four hour drive. In fact, we are organizing a bus to leave at 5pm on Friday in order
to accommodate your work schedule (more details to come), and have designed the
weekend schedule to make sure you have a productive and fun weekend. Your
time will be well spent!
