Christian Zionism & U.S. Policy Towards Israel

In recent years, Evangelical Christians have thrown a great deal of weight behind promoting Israel's policy agenda in the United States.

Reverend Dr. Donald Wagner - an Evangelical Christian - will discuss the evolution of the Christian Zionist movement from its origins in the 19th century up to the present. He will discuss the role that the Christian Zionist movement plays in driving the U.S. foreign policy agenda today. Dr. Wagner will also discuss the Presbyterian Church-USA's decision to divest from companies that profit from the Israeli military occupation of Palestine.

Background:

The Presbyterian Church’s 216th General Assembly caught American Jewish organizations off guard and by surprise when they voted to begin a process that could result in selective divestment from companies that do business with Israel. With nearly three million U.S. members and combined pension fund and foundation assets estimated at $7 billion, the Presbyterians are the first major Christian denomination to call for such a move.
