NAAP's Annual Conference: Love and Family in the Arab American context
The conference keeps getting closer... So, we want to give you a little taste of what to expect from our conference panels.  These panels will cover four broad themes including personal, cultural, professional and political topics.

This week, we are featuring one of the panels with a personal impact topic.

Love and Family: Personal Relationships in the Arab American context
How do Arab and American cultural expectations regarding family and personal relationships conflict?  What are some of the challenges faced by individuals navigating this cross-cultural context?  Here you will discuss relationships among young Arab-Americans, including the sometimes conflicting aspects of Arab and American cultures.

Obviously, we expect some lively discussion during that panel!  We also want you to continue the dialogue after the conference and will provide with the means to do so on a global level.

Questions? Email Sama ElBannan.
You Tube Video of the Week: Driving to ZigZigLand

Dean Obeidallah In honor of the First Boston Palestine Film Festival launching on September 29th, we are featuring a Palestinian film.  (By the way, you can also catch Driving to Zigzigland during the festival - discussion with the director will follow.)

Driving to Zigzigland is a film by Nicole Ballivian (US/Palestine, 2006, 83 min.). Based on a true story, this day in the life of a Palestinian cab driver in Los Angeles portrays the social struggle of the Arab immigrant in post-9/11 America. A film audition typecasts Bashar to play an Al Qaeda terrorist role. The utilities are due and Bashar has twenty-four hours to make the money. For the remaining hours left in the day, an unceasing flow of passengers give the Arab cabbie the runaround on such issues as suicide bombers, George Bush, Cat Stevens, the war in Iraq, music, and world geography. Bashar's quest to make money is successful until he realizes he has to choose between the Department of Homeland Security and his family. Shot in Los Angeles and Palestine. Discussion with director follows screening.
