Election Day Outreach 11/2/02 & 11/3/02
Whether it was in Jersey City, Paterson, Queens, Brooklyn or Yonkers
the number one question NAAP got during this summer's voter
registration campaign was "WHO SHOULD I VOTE FOR?".
With election day right around the corner, NAAP-NY is teaming up with
the Arab American Institute (AAI) to help our communities answer this
question.
Next weekend, on Saturday and Sunday (November 2nd and 3rd),
volunteers will be going to the neighborhoods and passing out
candidates fact sheets to people, businesses, religious institutions
and so forth. While we will not be promoting for any specific
candidates, the information on our fact sheets will provide
candidates histories regarding both bread/butter issues and
Arab/Muslim issues.
This effort is extremely important as it will help our people make a
strong educated decision based on candidates' histories and
performance and will bring us one step closer to becoming an
educated, significant voting block.
There will be a volunteer meeting this Thursday, October 31st, at 7pm
(at Denizen's in Manhattan - 73 Thompson st., btwn Spring & Broome
st.) to hand out materials/flyers and discuss logistics and locations
before the weekend.
We are planning on volunteering in the following areas (please note
that these areas are where NAAP had a voter registration drive or
where there is a large concentration of Arabs. It is not a fixed list
and people are encouraged to come to the meeting with additional
locations in mind):
New York Area
* Bay Ridge
* Atlantic Avenue
* Astoria
* Yonkers
New Jersey Area
* Patterson
* Jersey City
* Newark
* Holmdell
* Woodbridge
* Little Falls
