"The Pulse of the Intifada"
Written during the first months of the Al-Aqsa Intifada, "Pulse of the
Intifada" is based on an oral history Noura Erakat collected while studying
in Palestine. The play puts a human face on the current plight of
Palestinians, showing its origin in the ethnic cleansing of 1948.
This play is a record of one aspect of the struggle -- a small piece of the
story that must be told and retold so that people are reminded of the
existence of Palestinians, and through them the continuing existence of
Palestine.
The characters in Erakat's play are refugees, with the symbolic grief of
the Diaspora.
***The 2003 Palestine Theatre Initiative is a nationwide effort to bring
greater awareness of the history of the Palestinian People, to foster
greater understanding of the Palestinian Experience and to create
solidarity among activists across the country.***
