Ramadan Iftar - October 18th, 2006

In a joint effort with the ADC, NAAP hosted an Iftar Dinner at Lebnan Zaman, We had a great turnout with 70+ members from NAAP-DC and ADC-DC. Many new people attended the dinner and got a chance to meet current and other new members. Lebnan Zaman offered a delicious and generous amount of food.

National March and Rally in Washington, DC to Protest Israeli Aggression - Saturday, August 12, 2006

THE NETWORK OF ARAB AMERICAN PROFESSIONALS participated in the National Emergency March in Washington, DC, on Saturday, August 12, 2006. The purpose of the March/Rally was to protest Israeli aggression toward the Lebanese and Palestinians, including the destruction of their infrastructure, and to demand an immediate ceasefire. More than 100 organizations and groups participated in this non-violent protest. Tens of thousands of people from across the U.S. attended. Our National NAAP Chapters joined us in the March/Rally from New York, Philly, Baltimore, Boston....

NAAP Arabic Dance Party - June 9th, 2006
Back by popular demand, NAAP-DC had its first Arabic Party of the year. All you can hear Arabic Dance music with DJ Bassel, Sheesha, good food and nice gathering. The event took place at Medaterra Restaurant in DC and was a great success. Many of our NAAP members suggested that we have this type of events more often. Guess what? we will. NAAP Annual BBQ Picnic - June 4th, 2006
Our annual BBQ Picnic was a huge success. The picnic took place at Great Falls Park (VA Side) on Sunday, June 4th. Many people joined us for some fun and good food at our annual Summer picnic. View Pictures from the Picnic

2nd Annual National Arab American Service Day. May 20th, 2006
NAAP-DC joined AAIF (Arab American Institute Foundation) and the National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC) for the 2nd Annual National Arab American Service Day. Hundreds of Arab Americans and non-Arabs around the country joined together for a common purpose, to serve their communities and neighbors.

AAIF partnered with WVSART’s School for Arts In Learning (SAIL) a school for children with special needs. At their “Junior Sports Day” volunteers engaged with SAIL students in a day of sports and recreation. Games included soccer, three-legged-races and ultimate Frisbee.

NAAP Networker - March 29, 2006
We had a great number of new and seasoned members who attended the Networker Event at Medaterra Restaurant in DC. Everyone enjoyed some appetizers while chatting and meeting new members of various nationalities and professional backgrounds.

An evening of Classical Persian Music. Nava Ensemble welcomes guest performers Nader Majd and Nami Hai on tar, Arsalan Hamidi on violin, and Naser Khorasani, Alireza Analouei & the Sama Ensemble -- in addition to their own artists.

Arabian Sights Film Festival
October 14th - 23rd

The 2005 Arabian Sights Film Festival featuring contemporary Arab Cinema will take place October 14-23, in Washington, DC.

Arabian Sights is presented by the Washington, DC, International Film Festival and offers an array of the newest, most provocative and eclectic films from and about today's Arab world. These timely films show the range and commitment of directors, several of whom will be present at their screenings, who invariably manage to tell moving stories while exploring the social, religious and political issues facing their region. An Evening for Peace (The American Task Force on Palestine)
The American Task Force on Palestine presented an Evening for Peace With musical guest, Simon Shaheen was performing the oud and violin at Busboys and Poets on Septmeber 21st, 2005.

National Arab American Service Day ( support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society )
NAAP-DC organized a volunteer event for National Arab American Service Day, a nationwide effort. All the NAAP chapters participated in some type of volunteer event to honor the 1st annual National Arab American Service Day.
Many volunteered to provide services to those participating in a 2 mile evening walk to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with illuminating balloons during the walk. The event took place on Saturday, September 24th, 2005

2004 Arab American Film Maker Award!!! Sponsored by Tony Shalhoub, Zoom in Focus Producation and the Network of Arab-American Professionals. This is the chance of a lifetime to direct your short film (less than 30 minutes) that you dream about every night. We are currently accepting screenplays as part of a national competition to help support aspiring Arab-American Filmmakers to direct and produce their film onsite in Hollywood with the generous support of Tony Shalhoub and the Network of Arab American Professionals (NAAP).
The deadline for submissions is March 1st 2005.

ART Downstairs Cafe -
Be a Part of the ART Downstairs Café – AUDIENCE MEMBERS NEEDED! As most of you know, NAAP is hosting the ART Downstairs Café© Show.  The show is set up in a coffee-shop type environment, where topics are introduced and discussed by everyone present, including “audience members”.

The Naji al-Ali Exhibit - In 2002, NAAP has produced "The Naji al-Ali Exhibit" to commemorate the life of Palestinian caricaturist Naji al-Ali and to celebrate his legacy Handthala. The exhibit featured original drawings by the artist, a film about his life, discussion sessions, and reproductions of some his greatest works, including banned cartoons. It was attended on its opening day by more than 150 people. The exhibit then appeared at the 4th annual UASA Conference in January 2002.


Arabic School - In April 2002, NAAP opened a Sunday Arabic School in Vienna, Virginia in conjunction with the Palestine Women Association (PAWA) and the Ramallah Club of Washington DC. The school teaches Arabic language classes and Arabic culture, including dabke and music. Classes are held every Sunday for twelve weeks during each semester.


Fundraiser for Iraq - NAAP's first official event was a fundraiser for Iraq to help raise awareness on the suffering of the Iraqi people as a result of the sanctions. The funds raised at the event were used to sponsor programs and activities on college campuses addressing the sanctions. The event featured various aspects of Iraqi culture including music and dancing. It was attended by over 150 people and was the first event at which NAAP was formally introduced to the Arab-American community in the DC area.

Annual Fall Picnic! Sunday, September 11, 2005. It's that time again. Time for our ANNUAL FALL PICNIC!
We are happy to announce that our annual Fall picnic is scheduled for Sunday, September 11th at Great Falls Park (VA side). Grab all your family and friends and join us for some fun and good food at our annual Fall picnic.

Cost: Adults (over 12) $10; Under 12 $5
Time: Noon - Til' the sun goes down!

A table at the picnic to display your information will be provided and your company's ad will be displayed on our website for a month. What a great deal!

Join NAAP's Relay For Life Team! - in participating in the American Cancer Society’s signature event, Relay For Life. Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event created to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.When: Saturday, 4/15/2005 - 4/16/2005, Start time: 7:00PM, End time:  7:00 AM

It's Time to SKI!!!

Come out and join NAAP-DC as we round our members up for a day of skiing at Ski Liberty! You say you have never tried to ski before? Not a problem, they offer beginner classes for everyone.  There are two packages offered to us for this trip:
1. Learn to Ski: Beginner lift ticket, ski or board rental, and a 90-minute. lesson. ($60)
2. All Mounting: All terrain lift ticket, ski or board rental, and 1 hour lesson. ($70)
Snow Tubing is extra $12 for one hour and $16 for two hours. Ticket and ski or board rental valid from 8:00AM till 10:00PM. Please make sure before you call Bassel with what package fit your needs, and if you like to have the super saver. Please note, there is no cancellation after reservations have been made, so please be responsible. Cash, credit card and checks are all accepted forms of payments. See you on the slopes!

Valentine's Day Mixer - Come join the Network of Arab American Professionals (NAAP-DC) as we get together on Valentine's Day to hang out with old friends and possibly meet new ones ;) Come listen to music, have a drink, and more importanly, have a good time.

- It’s getting cold out there and its time for a weather-appropriate social event…ICE SKATING! Wrap yourself in a scarf and put on your gloves and woolen socks…come show off your skating skills, learn to skate, or just hang out drinking hot chocolate with new and old friends.

Club Paradiso - NAAP organized 3 major parties at Club Paradiso in the winter of 2001/2002 drawing as much as 230 people. A DJ spinned the night away playing Arabic, Persian, House, HiNRG, and Hip Hop music. Proceeds from tickets sold were used to fund other NAAP and UASA activities.


Barbecues - From time to time, NAAP hosts outdoor barbecues where our members can meet up to play sports, chit-chat, and of course -- eat. Our picnics are usually attended by 50 to 80 members and are held in the Northern Virginia area.
